Ready to keg after a long break...but???

Post by Epayton » Mon Dec 17, 2012 8:02 pm

Greetings All,

I just decided to start brewing again and looking for any tip about getting my corny kegs ready after many years of inactivity. When I stored them I cleaned them and gave the seals a good coating to attempt to keep them from drying out.

I haven't looked at them yet but will get them out of storage tomorrow. Any tips on what I should check in order to ensure they are ready to go?

Also, any recommendations on where to buy supplies in Owensboro or are the only options what you have listed in Evansville?

Cheers!

I would think a good cleaning and sanitizing would be all you'll need IF they hold pressure. Most of the seals are cheap as dirt, except for the big lid one, so you may just swap them out if they were old before storage. We've got the part numbers from McMaster-Carr on here somewhere on the Kegging 101 thread.

I believe the supply place in Owensboro closed.

Here is an image I made while rebuilding some kegs showing all the parts of a keg and the McMaster-Carr replacement part numbers.

A big thank you for the input and the part information. I will see if the hold pressure this weekend once I fish out my CO2 tank and get it filled.
