July 28: Brewing Demo/meeting @ Westside Sportman's Club

Post by Chris Norrick » Fri Jul 06, 2007 1:03 pm

I know Jim has mentioned this a few times but I couldn't find a post for it, so...

The club is doing a brewing demo at the Westside Sportman's Club on July 28. I'm not sure when we'll start, early I would think. This is to coincide with a professional BBQ Cookoff they are having there. The club is located at 1000 N. Peerless Rd with the long drive right next to the RR tracks. Here is the location on Google Maps: CLICK ME

Jim also mentioned going to his house afterward and hitting the pool. He lives just up the road from the club on Upper Mt. Vernon. On Google Maps: CLICK ME

I understand we will be under a shelter house with power and water. Bring out your system and lets get some beer made for the two festivals coming up!

I plan on being there. I'll probably be brewing some sort of Blonde(for the blondes) for the festivals.

The BBQ teams will be there early. Many will be there Friday night. We can get there anytime Saturday AM. I'll probably get there somewhere between 9 and 10 AM. I think I'll make a wussie beer, some kind of a SESSION BEER WITH RICE AS A INGREDIENT!!!!!!! Why? Never made anything like that before. And it might go well at the brewer's festival
Give me something light, please.

As I had said earlier, I won't be able to attend, I will be out of town for the next 10 days. looks like I am going to miss two of my favorite things in life...Beer and BBQ.

Thanks Jack, but I think we will just be brewing Saturday at the Sportsmaen Club. We shouldn't need the tap box.

I think that went great. The West Side Sportsman's club is a cool place.

Incidentally, I learned a lot from the BBQ'ers ... did my best ribs ever today with some tips I learned from those guys.

Tip 1: Mesquite + Hickory = tasty.
Tip 2: Cold meat loves the smoke.
Tip 3: Taking the membrane off of the ribs is worth the trouble.
Tip 4: A little over 2 hrs/lb. is just about right at 225 to 250.
Tip 5: Turn once/hour, use a water bath in the smoker, and spray with juice after flipping.
